cathys cause

Cathy Wick
My name is Cathy Wick and I was diagnosed about 14 years ago with sarcoidosis. I spend my time these days raising money for sarcoidosis research, supporting others with this disease, and promoting awareness to others.
Being out of work left me with a lot of free time on my hands and after a couple of months I decided to organize a fundraiser. I gathered some friends and made myself busy. I had no idea my fundraiser would be so successful! After all, no one in my town had even heard of this disease before. Over the past four years, I have been able to raise over $32,000 for research.
My fundraiser has now become an annual event and this year will be the fifth year of me hosting it. Over the years, I have met a lot of people who have come to me with questions and looking for information. Most of them are recently diagnosed and feeling alone. I also have a support group for central New Jersey that meets once a month at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, NJ.
I will be out promting sarcoidosis awareness anyway and anywhere I can. My friends and I will next be participating in the Belmar St Patrick's Day Parade on Sunday, March 1st and we will be wearing 'cathy's cause' t-shirts to help raise awareness. It is my belief that the more people become of aware of this disease, the more people may be willing to help us end it.

Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research
I feel that research is the only way we will ever get any awswers. How does one get sarcoidosis? How can we better treat it? How can we beat it? These are all things I need to know. That's why I started my annual fundraiser and that's why I will continue it for as long as I can.
I have teamed up with the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research (FSR) based in Chicago, Il. The Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research is the nation’s leading nonprofit organization dedicated to finding a cure for this disease and to improving care for sarcoidosis patients. Since its establishment in 2000, FSR has funded numerous domestic and international research efforts and has worked diligently to provide resources to thousands.
